Nokia has details on Nokia Lumia 800 firmware update January 18
Nokia has sent out the information on the planned update for January 18th, the roll out begins today but runs over 2 weeks, so if yours doesn’t say hello when you connect to Zune then just wait it out. O2 have said they have started to push it out already so you may be in luck! I am on 3 so will shout out when it drops!
As promised in December, a second software update for the Nokia Lumia 800 starts to roll out today.
The update will bring the software on your phone to version 1600.2483.8106.11500 and delivers two key benefits:
Battery performance enhancements;
Wi-Fi connectivity enhancements.
The update will not be delivered to every Lumia 800 simultaneously, but rather will be staggered over the next two weeks through Microsoft’s standard update process. This helps each owner gets the update without any hitches. Around half of owners will get the update in the next seven days, with the remainder over the following seven days.
Your Nokia Lumia smartphone will automatically check for updates from time to time, and you’ll get a message on the phone when it is ready.
Once you’ve received the update message, attach your phone to your computer using the USB cable. In Zune, from the Applications section, go to phone settings->Phone update to install the new software. On a Mac, click on the device name in the left-hand pane and then on ‘Install update’. There are more detailed instructions on the product support pages, if you need them.
Interestingly is seems to be a simultaneous global roll-out, and one wonders if they signed off with all the carriers before doing it or simply pulled an Apple.
In our earlier article on the update it seems Lumia owners around the world are already receiving the software, including those with unlocked handsets, which we can help feel is the right way to do an update.
